Recommended Wines at Houston restaurants

The wine list at Tony’s is not only extensive; there are a number of important comments to make about it. First, like everything about the restaurant, great marketing detail is paid to the list itself. For example, I recognized many, many wines but many wines that I recognized were from a particularly poor year for that exact wine, and were not down-priced accordingly. The list notes that wines are served in Riedel glasses and that wines over 20 years of age are purchased at the customer’s risk (which is not a reasonable policy, since Tony’s acquired and stored the wine). Finally, there are the off-the-chart rare wines including an 1848 Chateaux Margaux at $35,000. I do not include in this list any of the rare wines which are under Tony’s heading of “Indulgence.” But, those wines are available at Tony’s and nowhere else in a Houston restaurant.
